DIR UND DON

This restaurant is in the centre of Alagna. There are two parts to it, the interior has been beautifully decorated in wood, and there is one section which is mainly pizzas, calzone, pasta and some meat dishes and salads, as well as delicious desserts.  The second part is more formal, serving really excellent food.  We highly recommend this restaurant.  They keep an excellent cellar!  It is popular with locals as well as travelers alike.

BAR UNIONE

This is a very friendly and popular family run bar/restaurant that has been going for many years. It has a warm buzzy atmosphere and the food is excellent.  Paola and her husband enjoy presenting their clientele with the very best of local cuisine.  It is situated in the centre of Alagna, set back off the road.

Their specialties include:-

*         Raclette (grilled cheese and potatoes)
*         Fonduta di Formaggi (cheese fondue)
*         Polenta e Selvaggina (polenta and game)
*         Miacce (savoury pancakes)

If you are looking to try a really tasty local dish their Venison and polenta is excellent!

HOTEL CRISTALLO

The Hotel Cristallo is a four star hotel, Simona Fanottoli the director has an eye for detail and runs this establishment to exacting standards.  It has it’s own restaurant which is available for dining and reservations even if you are not staying at the hotel.  The food is typical of the region.  In the basement there is also a cocktail lounge run by our good friend Giando, it is open to the public, great for pre dinner drinks or late night lounging and the Mai Tai’s are excellent!

MONTAGNA DI LUCE

A small charming hotel in the hamlet of Pedemonte.  The building has been immaculately restored in true Walser style and has a warm and genuine alpine atmosphere.  It has its own restaurant where the general public can dine.  A five\ten minute walk straight up the valley from town and over the river bridge will work up a good appetite for your dinner. It serves regional and international cuisine and has a good wine cellar.  Our good friend and your host Gratziano Muretto and his friendly team will always assure you of an enjoyable time.

FUM D'ISS

Home cooked food, Fum Diss is in the hamlet (frazione) of Dosso. It is open during the season on Friday and Saturday. From Piazza degli Alberghi, follow the main road up and take a left after 100metres, onto a narrow and steep road. If it is snowing you will need to get there either in a 4x4 or with snow chains on your car.

BAR MIRELLA

Bar Mirella is situated close to the cable car.  The owners bake the most delicious home made biscuits which literally melt in the mouth.  Definitely worth taking a goody bag up the mountain or back home with you.  The café also serves the usual drinks, coffees, hot chocolate etc. as well as the classic après ski drink “Bombardino” try it you will love it!

CAFFE DEL CENTRO

This little café in the centre of town is popular with the locals during the day as well as being a busy après ski location.  As well as drinks it offers a range of snacks.

VINERIA AN BAKER WI

This is by far the most popular après ski bar, the place to be for après ski drinks – often serving complimentary local hams and cheeses between 5pm & 6pm.  The Vineria is on the main high street in Alagna.  It is a cosy but refined bar that serves a wonderful range of wines and delicious cold meats and cheeses.  It is open all day and serves a whole range of drinks, as well as coffee and snacks, including Miacce (savoury Italian pancakes - not to be missed). The Vineria is the perfect place to enjoy a glass or bottle after skiing or before dinner and is normally open to the early hours for more après meal lounging!  Under the watchful eye of it’s manager Sergio you can enjoy the local vino rosso from Gattinara or the fine wines of Nebiolo and Barolo, or of course the famous Bombardino!

CAFÉ DELLA GUIDE

This is a lively après ski bar situated just below the Monterosa Hotel.  This is a very popular place for after ski drinks.  Café della Guide is run by our good friend Ellie, it is a firm favourite of the Mountain Guides and ski instructors as much as anyone.  Always a good place for a Bombardino or hot chocolate!
